Hows it going now? (08/17/2010)
I lived in Dubai for a number of years, so I've seen the boom - and the fall. Things have stabilized, the first to leave were the investors, then as a result things got pretty bad with many businesses going bust and staff leaving as everything begun to grind to a halt, and the tourists were also uncertain because the currency is pegged to the dollar which really affected European travellers as the dirham was perceived expensive, especially when the Euro and UK pound lost 25% of its value - and ...

Burj Al Khalifa (08/17/2010)
Hi If you mean Burj Khalifa formally known as Burj Dubai, then it's well worth visiting. Booking can be problematic, I booked it twice and each time I arrived on the day there was a 'technical' problem. Basically a lift collapsed, you might not have heard about it because they like to keep these things a little hush hush if you know what I mean. Anyway, that's Dubai for you, and in general when it's good, it's very good..but when service is bad, it's very bad. My advice book it early for day ...

topless sunbathing? (06/24/2010)
You only need to check advice for Egypt on many large well-respected sites and you will find out, like many Muslim countries in MENA region that topless sunbathing is not acceptable. I have a few Egyptian friends, and their wives are not even allowed to expose their hair in public. With this rule,do you think they would tollerate topless sunbathing?.

I need a budget Dubai flight!, where is best to look please! (06/24/2010)
If you have your accommodation in Dubai already arranged with your friend, then just book direct with the airline. Why go through an agent or flight booking service, who will probably add commission...when you can organize it yourself. I'm sure you can work out what airlines fly to Dubai, but one thing that you may not have considered is many people fly from Manchester to Abu Dhabi with Etihad, and then get a 1 hr taxi from AD to Dubai. It might seem like an ordeal, but it's not and it's ...

Can't make up my mind on where to stay in Dubai (06/24/2010)
pattierosie - I've stayed at Burj Al Arab, and been there many times. It can be expensive, but if you time it right and enquire early you can get deals to stay there and you can also book to have brunch or drinks in the skyview bar on 27th floor. The floors are all double height, and to my knowledge it's still the tallest "hotel" in the world. Probably not the sort of place to take children since it's 7 star, just bear that in mind..
