Japan - Great Buddha statues (11/20/2008)
|
I visited the same statue as you in Kamakura. Got horribly lost trying to find the thing but it was quite impressive. I was a little surprised that you could climb it. I dunno, anything to get money out of tourists. I also visited loads of great shrine around the area and had lunch in a tree house style cafe with squirrels running round inside..

Laos to Thailand (11/20/2008)
|
Could i get some advice on the journey from laos into china, i'm flying from hong kong at the end of march and i recon it'd be a pretty nice journey. i've looked up in guide books but nothing's that explanatory. I've read it'll be a 6 hour journey to the border and then a 16 hour journey to kunming - how easy is this? what kinda cost is china in this region (kunming to hong kong)? Anyone who's done it and has any advice will be really appreciated
Thanks!
Steff.

never been in japan (11/20/2008)

That seems like a lot of places to go for only one day each.
Can you give some information about what there is to see and do in each place, and which of these places would be good to spend more than one day?.

Was that the program where contestants did really clever things like sat in tanks of ice water until they nearly died or smashed each other in the 'nads and stuff like that? [/quote:e8dd8185a6]
That would be Endurance.

I love Vietnam and have been there twice but if someone asks about Thailand I guess that's where they're going...we all know there are countless alternatives to any destination..
Whoops, sorry I slipped into a "pseudo-moderator" mode!.

Travelling Vietnam (11/17/2008)

I think it is better to spend the trip in Ha Noi or Ho Chi Minh city in the winter :D. A adventure to the mountainous region such as Sapa is wonderful. But in this season these regions are really cold .

Have you visited Yunan province (11/17/2008)

If you're into WW2 history, the Burma road passes through Yunan and was an important route for supplies until the Japanese took over it..

Where will you probably go when you come to China? (11/17/2008)
|
I'd like to go Beijing and see what's going on after the olympics.
The Bird Cage looks cool but being a swimmer I'd go to the water cube.
I'm sure there is loads of hotel capacity at the moment and good prices..

Travel Locations with the most friendly people (11/17/2008)
|
I find that in general, the friendlier places tend to be smaller towns or the more rural areas. In big dense cities, such as Hong Kong island, people are much more abrupt with you. Once you get to new territories, people are warmer..
